Dear Chess Friends!

It is not always easy to land a clean combination in modern chess. Everyone trains tactics, everyone recognizes the classics. That’s why the combinations that work best are frequently ones that your opponent isn't even aware of until the trap has closed.

This Sunday, I’ll be giving a workshop on one of the most fascinating and creative themes in practical play: Masking Combinations. These are tactical concepts that are concealed behind quiet moves, deceptive tactics, or unfounded threats — and they are deadly precisely because they don’t appear to be dangerous at all. When done well, a masked combination feels like it came out of nowhere, but in reality, it was built with purpose.

🗓 Date: 05/11
Time: 11 a.m. EDT, 4 p.m. UK time, 5 p.m. CET

During this session, you’ll learn:

  • How to prepare combinations with calm, non-obvious moves
  • How to use repetition or passive-looking moves to provoke mistakes
  • How to create counter-combinations — baiting your opponent into a tactical disaster
  • Where these ideas show up in openings, middlegames, and even endgames
  • How to balance creativity with calculation to use these ideas safely

Why should you attend?

Masking combinations win games against players who normally don’t fall for tactics. These are not cheap tricks — they are high-level weapons that rely on timing, misdirection, and understanding. Once you learn how to disguise your ideas, you will begin winning in positions where your opponent thought everything was under control.

Register now and receive the Zoom-link before the event! Your participation is absolutely free, you just need to register here: https://chesslance.com/masterclass/

See you at the workshop,
