Dear Silverdale Chess Club Friend,
Thank you for letting us update you on the latest activities taking shape at the Silverdale Chess Club.
Here’s what’s on tap for this week...
At this week's meetup, along with all the usual chess hijinks, like Casual Chess and Bughouse, we want to ask you "What is your Chess Repertoire?” and “What if there was an Opening System you could play that would avoid having to learn so many different opening variations?
Of course, you could always try out multiple variations of the Ruy Lopez, or the Sicilian Defense (Najdorf, Taimanov, Dragon, or several other variations. Against 1. d4, you could play the Queen's Gambit Accepted, Declined, the Slav Defense, the King's Indian, Nimzo Indian, Queen’s Indian or Budapest Gambit, to name but a few.
Or….
Introducing the Hippopotamus
On the other hand, we have an opening system you can play against the King’s pawn, the Queen’s pawn, or any pawn or opening for that matter. It’s called the Hippopotamus. The “Hippo" has a natural progression of moves for Black, from the opening into the middle game, leading to a very easy to play attack. It could cut down your opening preparation by around 90%!
We’ll have a Demo Board on hand to show you the moves of the Hippo opening. If you'd like to show us your other opening favorites, strategies or ask about any other opening you play, (or defend against), we’re all ears!
Best of all, you can also play the Hippo as White!
See you Saturday!
p.s. Don't forget our "Author Talk” with Kyla Zhao on October 26 about the new chess-themed book for young adults titled “May the Best Player Win.” Kyla is getting rave reviews for her book all over the Internet. We’ll have her all to ourselves!
