Upcoming Chess Tournament: 36th Annual Jack Taylor Memorial (November 13-14)
The Victoria Chess Club would like to welcome local players back to over-the-board tournament chess in 2021! The Jack Taylor Memorial Chess Tournament typically signals the end of the yearly chess cycle in BC, but this year it represents a new start. Whether you're a seasoned veteran, or a new player inspired to try tournament chess by the Queen's Gambit, this is a golden opportunity!
When: November 13-14, 2021
Where: Delta Ocean Pointe Resort, 100 Harbour Road, Victoria, BC
Format: Five Round Swiss in two rating sections (U1600 and Premier); Rounds at 10:00am, 2:30pm, 7:30pm on November 13; Rounds at 10:00am and 2:30pm November 14; 90min+30sec time control
Prizes: Guaranteed minimum $2,000 cash prizes; Premier section: $500-1st, $250-2nd, $150-3rd, plus prizes for best under 2000 and best under 1800 rated player; 1600 Section: $250-1st and $150-2nd, plus prizes for best under 1300 rated player
Entry Fee: $70 up to and including October 1, then $80 up to and including November 8. $95 on site November 13 ($20 family discount for 2nd and higher entries from the same family)
Entry fees will be refunded if the event is cancelled due to ongoing public health-related restrictions.
A valid CFC membership is required to play. This is a yearly membership that allows your games to be officially rated by the Chess Federation of Canada.
