Vote Chess in Xindi

Hi everyone,

Commander Riker has asked me to help out with the Vote Chess games in this group, since we've lost some good VC players recently. VC can be a lot of fun if you do it properly but for that, you require teams of a certain size & it's essentail to have good participation by members. There's simply no point in joining a game & then playing no further part!

Playing VC & being successful at it isn't that difficult & I think I've learned the technique by now...

1) Suitable moves should first be proposed.

2) Discussion of those proposed moves follows to either approve or eliminate the move. The most suitable move (or moves) that are left are often referred to as candidate moves in VC.

3) Finally, when members see no need for further discussion, voting takes place but for candidate moves only.

I usually recommend that in 2-day or 3-day time-control games, voting is postponed until the final 24 hours & the preceeding time is used for discussion alone. In my experience, teams that don't discuss their moves generally lose more games & so all of our games from now on will be 3-day in order to allow adequate discussion.

If you've never played VC before, you'll lose nothing by joining just one game to try it out - it can be a good way to learn how to play better chess from more experienced players. You can make a contribution just by following the discussion & voting at the end of it - there's no obligation on anyone to come up with good ideas for moves.

If you have played VC before, please support your group because we do need your help.

Stephen.
