Vote Chess Rules
These are the rules by which we will play vote chess.
REVISED ON 5/22/2014
1. Nobody may vote until the match captain (generally an admin or someone appointed at move 1) has stated that you may do so for a certain move, or when we have less than 12 hours for time controls of 24 hours or more per move, and when half or time is remaining for shorter time controls. The captain's job is to spark discussion among the team, and pick out the good moves that had been discussed, which are then put to a vote. However, the captain does not have the final say between two equally good moves. Personal preference should have no place in the authority of a Vote Chess captain. If you feel that a captain is acting in a way that is detrimental to the team as a whole, please message your team VC admin (adarub1), or any superadmin.
2. Post your ideas to the team comments section. Include analysis if you can. However, please analyze your lines before you post them. At the same time though, don't be afraid to post a suggestion. Just don't make it seem like it's the best move if you don't believe it to be so.
3. People who attempt to sabotage the vote by advocating blunders will be penalized as follows: For the first offense, the offending player will receive a personal message from an admin. For the second offense, a player will once again be messaged and will have their name added to a list of team vote chess sabeteurs for a period of one month for the first time, and three months for the second time. Further offenses may result in expulsion from the group. A blunder is defined as a move that has either been analyzed already and has been proven to be bad, or a move that a player of a strength 200 ELO points below the posters rating could easily see as a blunder. This rule does not apply to accidental blunder advocation (i.e. player thinks it is good move but is missing something) If the player's intent is unknown, they will be messaged by an admin. This message does not count as a warning or strike against the player.
4. Engines are not allowed at all in vote chess. Any player who is found to have been using an engine will be removed from the group and reported for cheating.
It is my belief that with these rules in place, we will create a vote chess environment where everyone can enjoy themselves and lay during chess at the same time.
Thanks,
Adam Rubinberg (adarub1)
