We have a new identity and theme - VALHALLA

It is our hope to rescue this team from chess.com oblivion.  We need to stand out and be noticed.  To do that, we had to shake things up a little bit.  We deleted every team member who had not been on the site in 2014. They quit - good bye.

And there are seven or eight other Wolf-themed teams - the market is saturated.

So, after waiting three weeks for suggestions, and getting none, Virdi and I made a decision.  Our new theme is based on Norse mythology.  Here is a part of an article describing Valhalla:

The red-blooded, rip-roaring, gung-ho Gods beloved by the Vikings!  We could have listed them as "Nordic," but "Norse" sounds like the snorting of a giant battle stallion ....

Their idea of Heaven was VALHALLA.  Warriors only.  You had to die in battle first and be escorted by beautiful blonde VALKYRIES.  Here you could clash in battle all day long, your clefts limbs and cleavagings miraculously restored at the close of play.  You spent all night carousing, feasting, getting roaring drunk, and discussing the day's fun ....

So welcome to the Norse pantheon, which is not just Norway, but the rest of Scandanavia... And Iceland came into the equation and did it own Viking thing from 800 AD.

I think we all recognize some of the Norse heritage we have in our every day life.  The chief god was ODIN.  His Germanic counterpart was Woden, for who Wednesday (Woden's day) is named.  Odin's son THOR is remembered for Thursday (Thor's day).

The "Flight of the Valkyries" was memorialized in the Wagner opera, Der Ring des Nibelungen.

You might recognize LOKI as Thor's rival.  And we must not forget FREYJA, the goddess associated with love, sexuality, fertility, and war!

We will learn more as we grow.
