Why understanding our club's purpose is important?

Hello ladies and gentlemen, and boys and girls. This announcement is very important for the activity and growth of our club. I have realised that just some random update to the club is not enough. Even forum games might not be enough. Also, it is just not possible to handle everything. So, we shall focus on those things which are actually important. And that is to understand the purpose and identity of the club.

But what does the terminology mean?

Well this thing leads to two main questions.

  1. In which site is the club hosted on?
  2. What the name of the club is?

To the first question I say, well of course chess.com. And what purpose does it serve? Well, to make learning and playing chess easier. So our club should have features that does that job. So,  the Events are very important.

To the second question, it's SAARC or South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.

Thus, this is a regional chess.com club. Accordingly, we should implement things in our club.

As per this, decided to do the following updates—

CHESS IMPROVEMENT CAMPS (CIC or Camps)

I have thought of making chess camps where people can share stuff about chess. The way this works is that there with be 7 camps—

  • Opening Camp
  • Tactical Camp
  • Attacking Camp
  • Defending Camp
  • Positional Camp
  • Endgame Camp
  • History of Chess

Each of these will have components which are related to that topic.

  • Opening Camp:

Components– Opening Discussion, Opening Preparation for Vote Chess & Daily tournaments or Swiss or Arena tournaments, Sharing diagrams for Opening theory and variations and traps, sharing blogs that can help with a Opening, Puzzles, Sharing games featuring that Opening, Poles and Quizzes, and Exercises.

Others– Exercises will be made and posted by players with 2000 rapid or daily rating, or higher. People can share videos and forums and blogs on an Opening.

  • Tactical Camp:

Components– Puzzles, poles, Quizzes, Exercises, Tactics in Openings (especially Opening traps), games featuring brilliant Tactics, CCA, discussion, etc.

Others– Exercises will be made and posted by players with 1600 rapid or daily rating, or higher. People can share videos and forums and blogs about Tactics.

  •  Attacking Camp:

Components– Puzzles, poles, Quizzes, Exercises, games featuring aggressive gameplay, attacking strategies and principles, discussion, etc.

Others– Exercises will be made and posted by players with 1700 rapid or daily rating, or higher. People can share videos and forums and blogs on the topic.

  • Defending Camp:

Components– Puzzles, poles, Quizzes, Exercises, defence principles, Endgame Defence Tactics, transition to the Endgame from an aggressive middlegame, discussion, etc.

Others– Exercises will be made and posted by players with 2000 rapid or daily rating, or higher. People can share videos and forums and blogs on the topic.

  • Positional Camp:

Components– Puzzles, poles, Quizzes, Exercises, strategies and plans from the opening, Positional principles, SWOT analysis, games featuring brilliant positional play, discussion, etc.

Others– Exercises will be made and posted by players with 2100 rapid or daily rating (and titled players), or higher. People can share videos and forums and blogs on posional study.

  • Endgame Camp:

Components– Endgame Discussion, Sharing diagrams for Endgame examples and implementations of principles and tricks, sharing blogs that can help with various types of Endgames like Rook endgames, Puzzles, Sharing games featuring brilliant endgame play, Poles and Quizzes, and Exercises.

Others– Exercises will be made and posted by players with 2100 rapid or daily rating (and titled players), or higher. People can share videos and forums and blogs on an endgame.

  • History of Chess:

Poles, Quizzes, Exercises, featuring of various chess games played in history, chess general knowledge, chess quotes and advises, discussion, etc.

Others– Exercises will be made and posted by players with 1500 rapid or daily or blize rating, or higher. People can share videos and forums and blogs on an Opening.

*Pleople can show pages of the chess books they own for chess learning in the camps as well

These camps will be there in the form of forums. There will be one or two official forums representing a camp for discussions, but multiple forums can participate in multiple camps, by using hashtags on forum titles or maybe in the content.

  • Opening Camp: Use #Opening or #Openings
  • Tactical Camp: Use #Tactic or #Tactics
  • Attacking Camp: Use #Attack or #Attacking
  • Defending Camp: Use #Defence or #Defending
  • Positional Camp: Use #Positional or #Positional_Play
  • Endgame Camp: Use #Endgame or #Endgames or #Ending
  • History of Chess: Use #HistoryofChess or #ChessHistory

You can make forums on chess even without making it participate in a Camp, but more importance will be given to the forums that are a part of a camp.

And I genuinely request all the titled players to help us in our Camp program. Same to the high rated players.

Thematic Tournaments

From now on, we will have thematic Tournaments like titles (Chess of the Himalayas, etc.)

Here are a list of them—

  1. Chess of the Himalayas: This tournament will be held weekly (we need an organiser) and the time control will be Rapid 10 mins, Format: Arena.
  2. SAARC Grandmasters: This tournament will weekly (we need an organizer) and the time control will be Rapid 10 mins, Format: Swiss.
  3. Titled Tuesdays: This tournament will be held once in two weeks on Tuesday (we need an organiser) and the time control is Blize 3|2, Format: Swiss. Only titled players in the club are allowed(don'tknow how far this will go).
  4. Untitled Tuesday: Similar, but Untitled players like me only.

Team Competitions

We will have (once in two months) Team Competitions in our club. Since this is a regional club, each team will represent one country. For example I, @Zunayed_781038, @Shadow_Legend00001, @Arushproboy, etc. can make a team representing India 🇮🇳. Only the countries of South Asia can be represented.

But wait, what about members who are from somewhere else? Well, they can be selected be a team or can join a team they like.

Okay, but how do these competitions look like? They ain't going to be the usual tournament facility chess.com provides because we can't control a member from being paired up to a team mate. So, you guys will have to play manualy. There will be 10 rounds and each time you will be paired to a player of a different country. You need to play one rapid 10 min match, five bullet 1 min matches, and two blize 3|2 min matches with you opponent. Kind of like the Chess Olympiad but with you playing 8 matches for one round.

Tournament Format: Swiss

Newsletters will be provided for the results.

ALL SOUTH ASIA CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

This one is yearly and a big event. There will be a daily time control (3 days) tournament and the winner will get the title 'Player of the Year '. The rewards are special. I still don't know what we can give since this is a virtual club. But your participation and support can help us make this a reality.

Cultural Exchange Events

Any of you can post any recent cultural thing that happened in South Asia. We are doing this because this is a regional organization.

That was our updates. But the most important thing is your cooperation. Please do participate in these events and keep making forums. Do subscribe to our Youtube channel and join our Discord server.
