WSCC October 2020 Newsletter

" Hi all, 

I hope everyone is staying safe during this coronavirus pandemic.  The situation at Miller Park (Recreation Center) and Barn(e)s & Noble has not changed.

The Miller Park Recreation Center (MPRC) is currently not having any program(m)ing.  I spoke with Meagan and she said that the center is still a "Wi-Fi hot spot" for school children doing online education.  The center's hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  She also stated that the MPRC will be an early voting precinct and hours would be extended for that purpose only.

Things are not much different at Barn(e)s & Noble.  They have removed some tables to discourage people from sitting around.  We should not expect to return to that location until the pandemic is over.

Meagan will call me as soon as the situation changes at Miller Park.  In the meantime, a lot of players are playing chess online on the website chess.com.  The Greensboro Chess Club usually have (has) something going on every Wednesday on chess.com.  Please feel free to join in ( Live Chess - Swiss tournament held each Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. - Rapid events are Time Control G/10; increment 2 secs. and the Blitz events are G/5; no increment ).

Remember that North Carolina is still under a mask-wearing mandate (in Phase #3).  I do not think that mask-wearing is amicable to playing chess.  I have seen photos of people playing chess, wearing masks.
