Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh – 2nd Test – Day One
Zimbabwean skipper Craig Ervine won the toss and elected to bat at Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium which is an absolute mouthful of a stadium name something like MCG or Lords would have been simpler.
Zimbabwean openers Brain Bennet and Ben Curran both made scores of 21 putting the score at 2-72 when Sean Williams and Nick Welch joined each other at the crease for a partnership of 90 before Nick Welch had to retire hurt on 54* due to immense cramping he had been experiencing throughout the first session retiring in the early stages of the second.
Bangladeshi off-spinner Nayem Hassan then made huge breakthroughs dismissing captain Craig Ervine for 5 and in his next over making the massive breakthrough of Sean Williams for 67.
This caused a collapse for the Zimbabweans falling to 8-216 with Tajul Islam taking a 5-wicket haul including dismissing a returning Nick Welch on his second ball after returning.
Zimbabwean Wicketkeeper Tafadzwa Tsiga is on 18 not out and is joined at the wicket by number 11 Blessing Muzarabani on 2 not out.
Umpiring wise Richard Illingworth has made 2 correct calls failed to be overturned by both sides whereas other umpire Kumar Dharmasena has made 1 call overturned by DRS.
In Conclusion it’s a tightly poised game which id argue is leaning towards Bangladesh the Zimbabweans would like to bat throw the first session tomorrow with there final wicket hoping to add valuable runs before trying to bowl the Bangladeshi’s cheaply. Bangladesh are hoping to take this last wicket quickly.
