I, Krobot
Josef Emil Krejcik (22 January 1885- 4 January 1957) was an Austrian chess master, problemist, journalist and author. He was born in Vienna and participated in many local tournaments there. His best result came in 1921, when he shared first with Hans Kmoch.
Krejcik published in two Viennese chess magazines, the Wiener Schachzeitung and the Neues Wiener Abendblatt. He authored several famous famous chess books: 13 Kinder Caissens (Vienna 1924), Artige und unartige Kinder der Schachmuse (Leipzig, 1925), and Mein Abschied vom Schach (Berlin, 1955).
Krejcik was not a strong positional player, but he occasionally managed to defeat some of the strongest players of his time. Once, he beat Richard Reti in ten (!) moves when he trapped his queen in the middle of the board. His name is attached to the Krejcik Gambit in the Dutch Defense (1. d4 f5 2. g4). The following game is nicely played by him and involves a classic king hunt.
