FIDE Online Chess Olympiad
The FIDE Online Olympiad is a major online chess event for national teams that runs July 25-August 30, 2020 on the Chess.com server. 163 teams and over 1,500 participants from all over the world are playing.

Teams
Each team consists of six main players, including at least two women, at least one player who is 20 or younger, and at least one girl who is 20 or younger. Each team may have up to six reserves: two players in each of the first two categories and one player in each of the latter categories. Each team has a team captain as well.
Time control
The time control for all matches will be 15 minutes for the game and five seconds increment per move, starting from move one.
Base Division: July 25-27
First, the Base Division takes off with the 30 lowest-ranked teams based on the final standings of the Gaprindashvili Cup at the 2018 Batumi Chess Olympiad 2018—the combined results in the open and women's sections.
The division is divided into three pools with 10 teams each. Each pool plays a round-robin of nine rounds. The top four teams from each pool in the Base Division qualify for Division 4.
Division 4: July 31-August 2
Division 4 is composed of the 12 teams coming from the Base Division and 38 seeded teams ranked higher than the teams in the Base Division in the 2018 Gaprindashvili Cup.
The division is divided into five pools with 10 teams each. Each pool plays a round-robin of nine rounds. The top three teams from each pool in Division qualify for Division 3.
Division 3: August 7-9
Division 3 is composed of the 15 teams coming from Division 4 and 35 seeded teams ranked higher than the teams in Division 4 in the 2018 Gaprindashvili Cup.
The division is divided into five pools with 10 teams each. Pool winners of Division 4 cannot be placed in the same pool. Each pool plays a round-robin of nine rounds. The top three teams from each pool in Division qualify for Division 2.
Division 2: August 14-16
Division 2 is composed of the 15 teams coming from Division 3 and 35 seeded teams ranked higher than the teams in Division 3 in the 2018 Gaprindashvili Cup.
The division is divided into five pools with 10 teams each. Pool winners of Division 3 cannot be placed in the same pool. Each pool plays a round-robin of nine rounds. The top three teams from each pool in Division qualify for the Top Division.
Top Division: August 21-23
The Top Division is composed of the 15 teams coming from Division 2 and 25 seeded teams. These seeded teams are the five teams placed at the top of Gaprindashvili Cup, and five teams nominated by each of the four continents.
The division is divided into four pools with 10 teams each. The top three teams from each pool in the Top Division qualify for the Playoff.
Playoff: August 27-30
The playoff is a knockout phase with the 12 teams that qualified from the Top Division. Each individual matchup consists of two matches. In the first match, the first-named team in a duel has white on the odd-numbered boards and black on the even-numbered boards in the first match; and white on the even-numbered boards and black on the odd-numbered boards in the second match.

Stage 1: Divisions
At the end of each division tournament, team ranking is decided by using:
(a) Match point totals (2 for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss)
(b) Game point totals (1 for each game won, 1⁄2 for each game drawn, 0 for each game lost)
(c) Match point totals in the results between the teams which remain tied
(d) Game point totals in the results between the teams which remain tied
(e) Sonneborn-Berger (Matchpoints)
(f) Sonneborn-Berger (Gamepoints)
(g) Drawing of lots, if there remain teams tied in positions that qualify for Stage 2.
Stage 2: Playoff
In the event of drawn duel, the tie is broken with an armageddon game. A drawing of lots is done automatically to determine in which of the four categories the armageddon game is to be played. The captain of each team shall nominate one player, from the respective category. Once one player for each team has been nominated, there is a drawing of lots to determine which player can choose whether they play white or black.
The time control for the armageddon game is 5 minutes for White, and 4 minutes for Black, with no increment. If the player with the white pieces wins the game, his/her team wins the duel. If the player with the black pieces wins or draws the game, his/her team wins the duel.
