Adams vs Torre
If a dozen different masters were asked what was the greatest combination they have ever witnessed, there would be at least a dozen different replies. None, however, would deny the following game its share of immortality. This is one of the most brilliant and famous chess games in history. Rumor has it that the game never actually happened, that it was a post-mortem, at least that's what many experts believe. The game was "played" in 1920 in New Orleans, by Edwin Z. Adams (1885-1944) and Carlos Torre (1905-1978). Whether the game is genuine or not, we will never find out, the players are long gone and the truth with them. Either way, nobody can argue that the wild girations of the White Queen in the finale are, indeed, unique in the history of Chess.
