Here I provide annotations and commentary of game 5 of the match between Herman Steiner and 18 year old Reuben Fine at the time it was played. By the time Reuben Fine turned 18 years old he had only played a few tournaments but already been involved in seven matches!

This game has a valuable lesson for all players. Notice how white started to go into material mode trying to win black's a-pawn. After he did this he allowed black to get his pieces active and trap the white queen. Sometimes material is not the most important factor in a game but rather piece activity (which allowed black to trap the white queen).

This game was a critical victory for Reuben Fine, which allowed him to win the 10 game match against Herman Steiner with a score of 5.5-4.5
