Greed Doesn't Pay
This position ilustrates what greed can do to a chess player. White has an easy win with a Knight and a Pawn ahead; instead of resigning, Black tries a clever swindle, he just played ...f4xe3. White should simply play f2xe3 and Black should resign, instead, he sees the tempting Knight fork Nd7, winning one of the Black Rooks, he realizes too late that the "winning" fork is an optical illusion and loses by force. It is a devastating comment on White's greediness that he never had time to capture either of the forked Rooks. Black relied on his opponent's greed to carry out his plan, it worked like a charm.
