Improving at chess

I started playing chess 6 months ago. When I first started I was quite happy to play weak players for lots of quick wins. Of course, ego got the better of me, I joined a chess club and consequently got a hammering!! Of course I was left feeling depressed and discouraged Yell

I got chessmaster and improved my rating from 600 quickly to 1200 and now I'm a 1600. I like what IM Josh Waitzkin says; that learning comes at the point of resistance. I.e. if we stay in our comfort zones we learn nothing, if we get constantly beat by superior players we learn nothing. Now I always strive to push myself further.

Its probably common sense to most people but I sure hope this helps someone. And my recommendation of course is to get chessmaster (no I don't work for them )Smile
