The Bayonet Attack was born the same year I was. It is a logical response to Black's kingside ambitions. White plans an all-out attack on the queenside.but will also try to disrupt Black's plans by sinking a knight at e6 once Black weakens that square by advancing huis pawn to f5. White will have a weak pawn at e6 but it will control d7.White will eventually secure space on the queenside.

Top plyers have been debating the position for over half a century. Here is the state of play in 2011.
