Pro Chess League Arena Royale: All The Information

The Pro Chess League Arena Royale is a special 2023 Pro Chess League event. In this event, every player from all 16 PCL teams can participate in a multi-team blitz arena for two hours to score as many points as possible. The event happens on March 24, starting at 8 a.m. PT/16:00 CET, and features a $5,000 prize fund.


Format

Multi-team Arena

  • Players compete in a 150-minute multi-team arena. 
  • Teams must have at least four players and a maximum of 10 to participate in the event.
  • The time control is 3+0.
  • The team with the highest cumulative score among their top-four scorers wins.

Tiebreaks

  • In case there's a tie, the following criteria decide the winner:
  • Highest individual arena score.
  • Second-highest individual arena score.
  • Third-highest individual arena score.
  • Number of players who participated from a team. Players must play at least 10 games.

Players

The Arena Royale is a special event open to all players who are part of a PCL team. This is the only event in which teams can have all of their 10 players competing at the same time—giving fans a chance to enjoy broader matchups.

Schedule

The Arena Royale happens between the PCL's Week five and the playoffs. The event occurs on March 24 and starts at 8 a.m. PT/16:00 CET.

Prizes

The Arena Royale has a $5,000 prize fund, distributed as follows:

  • 1st: $2,000
  • 2nd: $1,500
  • 3rd: $1,000
  • 4th: $500
