In the Bogoljubow Variation of the Queen's Gambit Accepted (1.d4 d5 2.c4 dxc4 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 a6 5.e4), Black tries to defend his pawn structure after winning a pawn.  But this usually leads to quick development for White.  In this game, White sacrifices another pawn to control the center and get his pieces out quickly, while Black is stuck getting any of his pieces out.  The surprise comes from a potential knight or queen sac that opens up Black's position, leading to mate.
