Slow Playing the Sicilian

Here is a game from the XXI Magistral Ciudad de Leon, GM Ivanchuk - GM Shirov with full annotations and commentary:

In this game we saw white take a slower approach in meeting the Sicilian Defense starting with 3. Nc3 as opposed to 3. d4 when a fierce battle will arise. White was able to avoid the sharp opening battle black was aiming for. Soon we saw white build up pressure on the kingside with no real counterplay for black which led to a quick victory. Sometimes a good approach can be to slowly build pressure instead of heading into a very sharp opening position which your opponent is aiming for.
