Boris Spassky: World Champion
This game, from the World Championship match of 1969 between Tigran petrosian and Boris Spassky, both from the Soviet Union, shows Spassky conducting a brilliant Kingside attack. When Spassky plays 15.g4!, he challenges Petrosian to a battle of judgement. Is Black's position after 15...Nxg4 defendable? Petrosian obviously thinks so; he captures. Spassky demonstrates, with a series of sacrificial combinations, that his judgement is better; by winning this important game, he scores a crucial point, which allows him to become the new Champion of the World.
