The Great Reshevsky
Samuel Herman Reshevsky was born on 26 November, 1911 in Ozorkow, Poland. He learned to play chess at the tender age of four. By the time he was eight he was giving simultaneous exhibitions and defeating some of the prominents players of the country. He came to the US in 1920, and his first simultaneous in American soil was against 20 officers and cadets at the Military Academy at West Point, he scored an amazing result of 19 wins and one draw. Reshevsky abandoned chess for ten years to go to college. He received an Accounting Degree from the University of Chicago in 1933. After his achievement, he moved to tournament play and won the US Championship six times. However, he was never able to secure the rights for a World Championship match. Reshevsky died on 4 April, 1992 in New York. The game below is a sparkling brilliancy of this great chess giant.
