While Andrew is away ...
As Andrew Martin has the week off, let me pay a little tribute by presenting one of his games in the Sicilian Grand Prix Attack, the variation he helped establish as a major weapon in the 1980s. Here he plays a popular line against a defensive plan that encourages transfer to an Open Sicilian. He shows a deep understanding of the position, though a few tactical shots slipped by, perhaps in time pressure. Hardly one of his absolute best games, but one you probably aren't familiar with and probably a pleasant memory for him.
The Manchester "Benedictine"Torunaments hold many memories for me, despite the fact that the organizers provided each of the players with a bottle of their famous liquer and the bar being located immediately outside the playing hall, not to mention the fabulous cocktails at the nearby Jabberwocky restaurant and the late night poker games.
