Earlier this year we missed the 60th birthday of Robert Carlyle and believe him still worthy of a match in his honour. Now with a total of 64 screen credits, he started in Taggart 1990, made a mark in Cracker 1994 but then became widely renowned as Begbie in Trainspotting 1996 (a role he repeated in T2 Trainspotting 2017) and as Hamish Macbeth 1995-7, for which he won a Best Actor BAFTA; he put Sheffield on the map as Gaz in The Full Monty 1997, for which he also won a Best Actor BAFTA and has worked constantly since; of course he was the villain Renard in The World is Not Enough 1999 filmed on location In Navarra, Spain and the Bosphurus River, Istanbul; he even played Adolf Hitler in Hitler: The Rise of Evil 2003 and King James I in Gunpowder, Treason & Plot 2004; with more international appeal after Bond, he was nominated for an Emmy with Human Trafficking 2005 and was in Stargate Universe 2009-11 and Once Opon a Time 2011-18 and is currently on our screens in Cobra 2020-21. Born in Maryhill, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland and in Clan Bruce as a proud Scot, he took acting classes at Glasgow Arts Centre and on leaving school at 16 he took further education at Cardonald College, Glasgow & graduated from RSAMD (Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Dance).
