The following with apply from 27 January 2023, but may be amended in future if deemed necessary.

We expect that members should have some link to the county. Prospective members should state the nature of their link. Normally, this would mean they were born, live, work or study within Kent or have done so in the past; alternatively they may have some family association.

The County Championship competitions in which we participate only allow a player to represent one county team in any given season, therefore if prospective members belongs to another county team they will need to explain why they are applying to Kent. They will need to give an assurance that they will not infringe multi-player rules.

We will not accept 'club collectors' - ie. players belonging to many different clubs, often from many parts of the world. We don’t fix a number of clubs that is considered excessive, but a large number of other club memberships may be a cause of concern. The admin or superadmin dealing with the application should query the applicant if they have any concerns, and confer with other admins if they feel it necessary.

We also need to know that a prospective member understands how daily chess works and that they will not be liable to timing out in their games. As a minimum, they should have completed at least six (6) daily games, without timing out. If they have timed out in one or more of their last six daily games, then they will be refused, but may apply again once they have a consecutive run of six completed games without time out.

When an applicant is refused, the reason(s) for that should be given to them.
