The Benko Gambit The "book of chess.com" considers this position to be the beginning of the infamous Benko Gambit. The move order so far is: 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 b5 (diagram) White has the move and can decline the gambit with a move like Nf3, but that is highly discouraged. First, our opponent, the Fearless Gambiteers are fearless and will take the pawn! Secondly, although most engines will give White a slight advantage before the gambit, White goes from a "slightly better" to "White has an edge" after the main line in the gambit. I use an engine for this information but of course, no engine use is ever allowed during the course of any game. This was a personal opening repertoire of mine for years who fell victim in one particular OTB tournament to an expert player because I had not adopted the proper spirit of the opening. That is, "White sometimes is playing as if he is the better developed player, who therefore has the right to attack, rather than being the player with a pawn more, who wishes for nothing to happen." Good luck to all players and looking forward to seeing some strong feedback in our Benko Gambit forum.
