The start date is the centenary of the birth of Dinah Sheridan, who passed in 2012, aged 92. As an actress she was described as the "quintessential English rose". Born in Finchley, London, she was raised there and in Welwyn Garden City in Herts. Having trained at the Italia Conti Stage School, she started acting and achieved success in the 1930s. She was the first of her profession to be interviewed on TV in 1936. With the advent of the Second World War, she halted her career and became an ambulance driver in Welwyn Garden City. Her career blossomed again in the 40s and she became internationally famous with Genevieve in 1953. However she then married the head of Rank studios and at his insistence gave up her career and they lived for fifteen years in Palm Desert, California. The marriage ended and she returned to London, resuming her career, which bloomed again after The Railway Children in 1970. Many will remember her in sitcom series such as Don't Wait Up 1983-90, Just Us 1992 and All Night Long in 1994. She passed away at her long-standing home in Northwood, London.
