On the start date it will be the 45th birthday of Kate Winslet, already honoured in the UK with the title CBE and in France, she has been honoured with a César. From only 65 screen credits she has gathered 91 awards:- a BAFTA in 1995 for Sense and Sensibility, also for The Reader 2008, for which she also won an Oscar and Golden Globe, and also for Steve Jobs 2015, for which also a Golden Globe; in 2008 she won a further Globe for Revolutionary Road, a rare pairing of awards. All of which is without so far mentioning the role as Rose in Titanic 1997, which as one of the highest-grossing films of all time brought her global fame. She has though pretty much eschewed Hollywood and stardom and balanced big studio/franchise films such as Divergent-Insurgent 2014-15 with smaller independents. A true actress, which she aspired to be from an early age. Born in Reading, Berkshire and attending an acting school in nearby Maidenhead, she soon gained small parts and experienced rejection too. She lived and owned a home in Belsize Park, London and in her second marriage to Sam Mendes they owned an estate in the Cotswolds, but she now lives with her third husband in West Sussex and she still visits for work and owns a home she has had for some time in Chelsea, Manhattan, New York. A supporter of charities, including one in Gloucester, she now has her own Golden Hat Foundation and has written a book on the response to autism. A strong actress and woman, thankfully she does not abide by the vogue for thin models and cosmetic surgery, for which she is much respected and revered.
