On the start date Eddie Murphy will be 60 years old. Born in Brooklyn, and growing up on the streets of New York as a bright kid he evolved into impressions and stand-up routines as a means of survival and although not an academic he stood out at Roosevelt High School. Began stand-up at small venues developing to the Bay Area Comedy Club, wooing audiences with his impressions and social commentary. Eventually found his way onto Saturday Night Live with some memorable characters in sketches. His film breakthrough came with 48 Hrs in 1982. Beverly Hills Cop in 1984 made him a global star, with a third successive Golden Globe nomination. Has had hits and misses since and some controversy and criticism in his personal life, but Shrek in 2001 and its sequels endeared him again to many. DreamGirls 2006 brought him an Oscar nomination and wider appreciation. Apart from his Hollywood stays, and owning a home in Granite Bay, Sacramento he has a house in Englewood, New Jersey.
