Yesterday was the 60th birthday of Hiroyuki Sanada. Born in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan he has become recognised globally. He made his first film at the age of 5, and at the age of 12 he joined the Japan Action Club and became an action star. From 1999 to 2000 he played the Fool in an English-language production of King Lear with members of the RSC, as a result of which he was awarded an MBE. He has since appeared in The Last Samurai 2003 with Tom Cruise, in the last series of Lost as Dogen 2010, The Wolverine and The Railway Man and 47 Ronin 2013, Extant 2014, The Last Ship 2016 and recently was in Avengers: Endgame 2019 as Akihiko and he has been in Westworld 2018-20 as Musashi. He is still based in Japan, but now travels the world, particularly Hong Kong and Los Angeles as production centres. We believe a match should be held in his honour and hope you will accept.
