Today is the 60th anniversary of the nationwide release of the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Psycho. Opening in Phoenix, Arizona, Golden Globe winner Janet Leigh goes on the run with $40K from her office and on her way hopefully to a new life she stops in California overnight at the Bates Motel, run by Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates. The film had the same impact on showers as Jaws later had on swimming in the sea ! Filmed on location in Phoenix Arizona and the San Fernando Valley, and on Route 99 in California but mainly on the backlot of Universal Studios, California - where the motel and particularly the Bates house on the hill have stood as a monument for years, the film is firmly established in cinema history. We believe a match should be held in its honour and hope you will accept
