The start date is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mickey Rooney, who died in 2014, aged 93. He currently holds the record for the longest career in distributed cinema films at 89 years, having started in silent films in 1926 and a film being distributed after his death in 2015. Born and raised initially in Brooklyn NYC, he was destined for a career in entertainment, having appeared onstage for the first time at 17 months, his parents being vaudeville performers. They moved to Hollywood and he graduated from Hollywood High School but his love of film beckoned. He was the top box office star 1938-40 as a result of the Andy Hardy films and his appearance in Boys Town 1938, then embarked on a series of films with Judy Garland starting with Babes in Arms 1939, which started with the line "I've an idea - Let's put on a show !" which were so popular. He was always performing and was awarded a juvenile Oscar and in 1983 a lifetime achievement Oscar, though in between he had been nominated four times. Over the years he had eight wives and lived for many in Westlake Village, finishing his days in North Hollywood in the Hollywood Hills.
