Recently it was the 85th birthday of Andrew Prine. Anyone a fan of movies and TV in the 1960s-80s will know his face as over his career he has amassed 182 screen credits. Although a recognised stage actor he started with numerous appearances particularly in westerns such as Have Gun...Will Travel, Gunsmoke, Bonanza and Wagon Train and in films such as Texas Across the River 1966, Bandolero ! 1968 and Chisum 1970, though had longer appearances in Dr Kildare 1963-5 and The Road West 1996-7. He may also be remembered as Brig Gen Garnett in Gettysburg 1993 and the later Gods and Generals 2003, though in the last decade or so, having appeared in most TV series at some point, he is mainly retired. Awarded the Golden Boot 2001 for his contribution to western films/TV. Born in Jennings, Florida he graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Miami, and briefly attended the University of Miami, but part living in Jacksonville, he dropped out to pursue acting in New York City, initially making his mark on the stage.
