Long ago we missed the 60th birthday of Neil Dudgeon, who has been the leading star of Midsomer Murders for 12 years from 2011 as Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby in currently 58 episodes, having originally appeared in the role in one episode as a Detective Constable in 2000 as the cousin of the original star of the show John Nettles, the series having recently reached its 25th anniversary and is popular internationally, particularly in Denmark. Born and grew up in Doncaster, South Yorks (then West Riding), attending Intake & Danum Schools before studying drama at University of Bristol. He is also remembered for Piece of Cake 1988 as an RAF pilot in the Battle of Britain, Out of the Blue 95-96 as a Detective Constable, Common as Muck 1994-97, The Mrs Bradley Mysteries 1998-2000, the Messiah series 2001-05 as Detective Inspector John Warren, as Lestrade in Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking 2004, Bridget Jones – The Edge of Reason 2004, as Alan Hardaker of the Football League in United 2011 about Manchester United, the Busby Babes and the 1958 Munich air disaster. He has a total of 66 screen credits and is also remembered for appearing in an advertising campaign for Sun Alliance 1991. He lives in West London with his wife & two daughters, and is an avid supporter of Fulham Football Club.
