[THIS MATCH IS FOR TEAM WITH FEWER THAN 1000 MEMBERS, PLEASE] ... "Skraeling" is the term, in old Norse, used by the Viking settlers of Greenland and Vinland, to describe the indigenous peoples there. Settlers in the West Greenland colony came into contact with the "Dorset" people, forerunners of the Thule Inuit. However, the explorer of the mainland of North America, were set upon by fierce warriors. The Vikings wrote of the Skaelingjar, "They were short in height with threatening features and tangled hair on their heads. Their eyes were large and their cheeks broad .... despite everything the land had to offer there, they would be under constant threat of attack from its prior inhabitants." The Vikings in Greenland eventually gave way to climate change in the 1400s.
