7...Be7 - De Santis says, "Every so often it's a good idea to deviate into the Semi-Hippo."
I take issue with this.
This is a book about the Hippo Defense. If there is a good reason to deviate from the Hippo in this position then this should be explained to the reader. Without that explanation there is no useful or instructive reason to include this game in this book.
Stockfish saw 7...g6, 7...Ne7, 7...h6 as the top moves in this position; all solid Hippo moves.
Gaprindashvili played 7...g6, formed a full Hippo, and went on to win this game.
