Hello, I play a friend and he plays very strangely against the english opening.  Only showing you will make you understand his idea.

To give a taste of his style my opponent is a d-pawn fanatic who believes not playing d4 as White is "weak and black has great chances to turn the game into whatever he wants."

Thanks guys,

@benkku52 I will have all three of Marin's Books soon.

@Sparhaddock my oppent always puts his pawns on c6, d5, and e6 trying to play a semi-slav so I can never play Mikenas.

Once I got this setup after my opponents failed opening experiment:

@ccssii thanks for the info but it would be interesting to know what should be played if Black did not plays c5. This game is an estimation of how my opponent would respond.

Wolf_Rayet

Well thanks guys. I'll get all my answers soon once I get Marin's Grand Master Repertoire Series on the English.

I'm just not used to it and my opponent tries with all his might to force it into d4 openings which he has a great deal of comfort playing. Also, the reason I don't like the estimated line is not what he has played its what I think he will play next which is different from the normalish calm posistion.

The Anti-QGD Actually looks fair to me.  My opponent typically creates an agressive tactical posistion and sure I like tactics as much as the next guy but I'm a dynamic style player which fits this line.

Here is the estimation combined with what my opponent thought about the moves.

The Anti-QGD Setup actually might be a system my opponent does not have a pre-determined plan yet and will spend some time thinking about the opening.  I in a day or so I will play this against him and I'll record it and post it in this forum.

Wolf_Rayet

I'm not saying this is the exact plan at the end but something like it will occur as he wants to create counterplay and agression.

Here is the opening phase of my most recent game with my opponent.

I use to have a lot of issue's with the french defence/ QGD type of set up from black. After experimenting with all sorts of crazy structures I chose to transpose it to a catalan. This has been a hard system to learn but I have used it twice in tournament play and it through my opponent for a loop. I suggest trying to transpose to D4 and if they ever play b6 almost always trade Cxd. The reason why we dont exchange is to keep their bishop out, so once they make the concession with b6 I exchange and ask them where they want the bishop. Hope this helps.

Here is intresting OTB game I played several years ago in this line.

After the game, my opponent was so angry, he wouldn't even shake my hand!

I only found out after the game, my opponent was 200 points higher rated than I was.

Lesson: if you find yourself being intmidated my your opponents ratings, stop looking at them!

1. C4 e6 is the Agincout Defense. It aims to go into a QGD
