tip 11; In the beginning dont be an enemy of the North side player. A temporary alliance can yield good results even. Anyway it is often unwise to help west and east attack north. When you are left with north defeated and east and west attacking both on your flanks, you have a problem.
This is not a rule set in stone though, just something to keep in mind, and understanding this might benefit you.

I would say a lot of this is outdated and not showing a great understanding of the current meta or terminology, you might want to look up a newer thread as the original thread is several years old. Some of the tips still apply but others would just create bad habits (like sticking your knights near your king or trading knights for a 1 pt queen, this is all very situational). Probably helpful if you are completely new to this, but again, creating bad habits and getting stuck at some rating probably isn't great.

Thanks. I learned something from these tips, especially the idea of keeping the knights to defend the king.
Suggested extra tips:
1) It is not soooo important to be up in material, nor to keep your queen. It is essential to keep enough pieces to be able to accomplish something if given a chance. For instance once you are down to only two pieces left there is little you can accomplish. (Of course queenable pawns modify this advice somewhat).
2) Players under about 1300 to 1400 are unpredictably crazy and dangerous. The whole dynamic of the game changes when all 4 players understand the basics and can be relied on not to do stupid things that cause harm to both themselves AND you.

Hey... if it helps you any.... lol I once had over 50 correspondence games going and about 8 of them were rather fishy considering their beginning 15 moves as 300 less as a rating from how then their miraculous instant gained "as to increase 3 yrs experience" for positioning, so I decided to just blatantly throw all 50 + games and start anew, lol and even lost many after that to see how far my rating could drop! Lol had I known anything about the unbelievable sandbagging silly technique would I never had done! I found out about that one time while chatting to someone in one of the threads, and it came up and I relayed this to them. lol

The tips are really good, but they are mostly for ffa games.
I don't agree with 06. It's quite the opposite. Most of the time it is unnecessary and should be avoided, because it weakens you compared to the other players and it may weaken you more than your opponent (so arguably it's worse than an equal piece trade). The one with the extra queen(s) usually becomes a target and most of the time you can just take advantage of someone else's attack or threat to snatch a queen for free or you can give someone else the opportunity to grab a queen (and sacrifice a piece for it if they want to). Don't sacrifice your own pieces if you don't have to. It will only make the other two players happy.
