Make sure that the queen is active and makes sure that the enemy rooks don't have an easy infiltration. If they look like they're gonna double up on the 2nd rank or something, trade one and work in queen vs Rook + piece and utilize the queen's mobility
1450 let's go!! + some game analysis

Okay, so keep your own pieces active, and trade of their active ones.
Yup, I would add to that don't trade your active pieces for your opponent's trash pieces. This is especially important with queens, but is useful for any piece. By the way, congrats on getting 1450!
Thanks!

I actually don't like 17...Bxe6 from black. I think 17...Kh8 was better; the d7 bishop is also defended by the f6 knight, so Black doesn't lose a piece.
17.Bxe6+ Kh8 18.Bxd7 Nxd7
and it is white who just lost a knight for a pawn, so I don't think the sac on e6 was sound. Black has options like Ra7 to add defense to d7 and unpin with Qe8/Qc8/Qc7. White would be a tempo behind to pile up on d7 because white's rooks aren't even connected yet. Also, black gets a semi-open f-file, so I think the sac only helps black.
This was the game that got me to 1450
For all the higher rated players out there: how to you try to win positions like this where you are up a pawn or two and have the queen for 2 rooks, rook and bishop, rook and knight etc.? I'd really appreciate any comments on the game!
