Reason?

I don’t know. Mystery.

It's not mistery, it was explained but it's still bad/wrong to choose participants of next cup round based on number of registered boards for previous round instead of preparing the format that suits number of registered teams so every winner of direct duel can advance

As for drawn match, it's either decided based on different cutoff date (when one team was in lead) or based on the rule in case of a draw - TD should provide detailed explanation how the team to advance was choosen.

But I agree that this competition lost the credibility already based on the on the fly rules for current edition so that such details like team advancing in case of a draw is much less important to focus on
