In celebration of the 2010 Fifa World Cup in less than 2 weeks, Avril's International Team is hosting the chess version of the world cup, here on chess.com and we have been invited to participate.
The tournament will run the same way as the World cup does: 32 participants will be in the first round, in 8 groups of 4. The top 2 players in each group will advance to the knockout stages, which is 1 on 1, until we have only 1 player left.
In the spirit of Fifa, we're aiming to have 1 player from each of the participating countries. If we can't get a player from each country (which is very likely), we will allocate a country for the players to represent.
Please let me know if you would like to join the tournament by sending me a message or posting it below. This is an invitation tournament, so if you don't tell me, you won't be invited to join the tournament.
The tournament will start on the same day the Fifa World Cup starts, on 11 June.
