We're seeing the other side of the coin against South Carolina where we find ourselves 1-6 down. Logsy, Martyn and Peter finding the going extremely tough.
2020 Friendlies
We've made a very good start to our friendly with Islas Malvinas where we lead 9.5 - 8.5 despite being outgraded on most of the boards. This 28 board friendly would be a really good one to win.
Two matches have ended in style with victories for Dave, Darren and Rupert completing match wins over Team Bucharest and World Beauties and Pretty Boys. The scores were 16-10 and 4-0 respectively. These wins have pushed us up three places in the overall Club reckonings. We're now 430th !
An unusually heavy defeat, especially for a match with a limited grading, after Kentucky made it 8-2 with a timeout defeat for PhilJR.
We've lost in the U1500 match against Glamorgan where the score is currently 2.5 - 8.5. An unusually heavy defeat but Glamorgan are a new club and their gradings were probably a little underestimated. You can't win 'em all !
A win for Daznet has given us a 20.5 - 17.5 lead over Ocean Guardians in a 23 board match. Always close fought affairs these matches with a high number of boards are really good for improving our overall club ranking. We've been held up close to the line in two other friendlies with GG losing against Knights of the Realm where we need one more point and a defeat for David makes it 11-7 against Nova Scotia where we need just half a point.
Some interesting scorelines in some big friendly matches - 26.5 - 15.5 v Oregon ( a win for Charlie), 20.5 - 18.5 v Ocean Guardians (a defeat for Arnold), 16-14 v Islas Malvinas, 11-9 v Anita's Biker Angels (defeat for James), 13.5 - 13.5 v Ulster (draw for Dave and defeat for GG) and 10-13 v Run with the Wolf (win for Darren).
We've made promising starts to two big friendlies with a 20-15 lead against Islas Malvinas and a 20-8 lead against Checkers, Draughts, Chess. Too many individual victories to mention here I'm afraid. We've also started pretty quickly against Hertfordshire where we lead 10-5 already.
We've already crossed the line in the match with newly formed Hertfordshire. The score is 14.5 - 8.5 in the 13 board match. A win for Alastair has also taken us over the winning line against Nova Scotia. The score is now 12 - 7. A third win has come against Uruguay where Tretorvic's opponent was found guilty of cheating and the points given to us. The score 19-11.
We've also lost both the matches against the Channel Islands and South Carolina. A win and a loss for David gave the Channel Islands a 6-3 lead and a defeat for Richard put South Carolina over the line with the score 5.5 - 8.5.
Two wins each for Djess and Davidanthonyclarke have given us a good start against Oregon. Wyvern 4 Oregon 0. Well done, Both !!
We've won a useful friendly against Checkers, Draughts, Chess with Jimmer, dJess and Rupert winning and Martyn losing to take the score to 23-13. A good number of points to be added to our club record to take us further up the ladder of club teams.
Two wins for Darren have brought us victory against Ulster in a very close friendly. The score is now 15.5 - 13.5 with one unfinished game. Well done Darren !
A win for Phil and a win and a defeat for Rupert take the Islas Malvinas score to 25.5 - 26.5 in the very large 28 board match. Obviously a win in this friendly would bring us useful points to help us climb the club ladder.
No fewer than 7 friendlies started in 2020 have been completed recently. They've included 5 victories and 2 defeats. Three wins for Ash, two for PaulH, two for Logsy and a win for Oliver were among the recent results. Complete details can be seen herehttps://www.chess.com/clubs/matches/somerset-wyvern
Wins for QueenOilyFace, Brendan and Philchilla and a draw for Redknight have taken us over the line against Oregon with a score of 15-6. Two timeout wins for Jimmer couldn't prevent defeat in the match with Ambitious Pawn. Score is now 10-15. A win for Daznet keeps alive our hopes in the Run With The Wolf match where the score is now 12-13 with 3 games to finish.
We won't be playing World Beauties and Pretty Boys again. After many or our members were disappointed because our opponents got so few players signed up, we have won the two board match after Logsy won both her games on timeouts and Darren won his first game.
