was brought to my attention that +3 +1 -1 -3 should not have been intended for these arenas as a rating system. For Arenas 3-8, the rating system will be morph 2400 aka 3 -0.5 -0.5 -2 for 2400+. No more playing for second after this!

YES, it's absolutely right. I was extremely surprised to see 3 1 -1 -3 whereas for 2400+ games it's never the case. (BUT: it's not really good to have changed in the middle; whatever).

Either way, people will still play for 2nd and 3rd in favor of jumping into a new game in a complicated position, I wouldn’t really care if I got a -5 for it or something…

The elo rating is an irrelevant problem. Arenas scoring system is flawed.People are throwing games or resigning to get 1 fast point and play a new game sooner. Its faster to get 1 point in 5 minute game until first player is eliminated that is to play a 40 minute game to have a chance to get 3 points.

I played a 45 minutes game and abandoned the competition after i saw people with a lot of points with 3 or more games already.

Game is getting cheesed.

Remiel, look at the 8 winners of the first 4 arenas, you can't say it was not deserved, and no, most of their points didn't come from 1-pt-only-games, but from victories.

For example, for Arena 4, it's TWO PLAYERS WHO WON 5 TIMES (!) and had 3 2nd/3rd places.

In my perspective I think what they’re getting at is that the strategy for the arena is vastly different from the previous solo championships. Of course it’s beneficial to win rather than to join a large amount of games and resign after mating your opposite, but I will not say that I haven’t resigned games on purpose even if I would’ve played on (e.g if I’m left with 4 pieces in a 3P stage) in any normal game.

Of course, the time factor is critical, and I missed the qualification in one of the arenas simply because ONE victory was lacking, whereas I lost far too much time (maybe 45 min.?) in just one incertain game (eventually lost) that I should've better abandoned very early, when I realised that the guy in front was incompetent.

4 points for the win would work better. fwiw this is the new scoring for any FFA arena, i think 4 1 1 0 would be better. @qilp?

The first Arena was the only True FFA Arena, the rest were Solo rated. Playing for volume seemed to be the right strat for many, since 3rd gets 1 point for some reason.
This format encouraged people to quit and throw, to start a new game which was a MAJOR flaw, as so many games got ruined.

Yes.

Next time we shouldn't make it complicated, but simply count the victories, not points.

The first two arenas accidentally were 3 1 -1 -3 which was never intended. After it was just normal 3 -0.5 -0.5 -2 like regular 2400+ games.

The 3 1 1 0 was adopted from the league. Agree it was not ideal. Other than that I thought 3h 1+5 with 2 advancing was good.

ps great to see tony and neo among the candidates!

I'm also very happy to see Billy and Tony among the qualifiers, sad that only one of them can make it into the championship.

I caught the last train! I am the worst of all children! I was half an hour late for the last Arena because of my stupidity but...

I also noticed a possible misuse of Arena, but luckily it didn't happen. It usually takes about 5 minutes to get to the 3 players stage, plus about 2 minutes until the next game = 8 games per hour = 24 in 3 hours - if you fail every 4th time to get in to the 3 players stage = about 18 points - which was enough to qualify. Fortunately, no one used this.

In my opinion, the solution would be to limit the number of games per Arena - max 6 or 8. Otherwise, I agree with Spacebar, everything else was great.

18 Points would still not be a threat to me. Won with 20 Points and didn't even play a 10th game, although there would still have been some time left.

I agree the format was great. 3 1 1 0 encourages players to play for 1st in the 3 player stage. In the League we're only playing 2 games per week with a 5|7 TC so it's a bit different than the Arenas' 3 hour time limit. There were a lot of cases where players were satisfied with 3rd, quit and played a new game racking up points quicker than getting into a long 3 player stage playing for 1st.

Is it possible to set a max number of games played per Arena as @neoserbian suggested? The format would be perfect then, as every game would be played to win.
Qualifying Arenas could look like this:

Time Control: 1|7
Max Games: 5-
Points: 3 1 1 0
Rated Top 2 Advance
We're looking to run weekly League Arenas if we could set a Max number of games played.

Are you not happy that I qualified?, I think you should be!!!

I am happy that you are not in my Qualification Game.

Three arena qualifiers have not updated their name to their profile correctly (i.e. need their full name - first and last name - given name and surname) before proceeding. I am cracking down on that and players who fail to update their profile correctly will not be eligible to continue playing in this championship.
