If possible I think King of the Jungle should be made into a dead wall position as otherwise when Green is alive no one can play on the light squares, while when Green is dead the remaining players can play on light squares, meaning that players with unsafe kings or who are down in material might try harder to checkmate green in order to free up their kings, and players with well protected kings, and who are up in material might try to make sure that Green doesn't get checkmated in order to keep the other kings restricted in their movement.  In other words without the dead wall position strategy revolves much more around whether or not Green is alive or dead than whether or not any other color is alive or dead.

Here is a map I call "The Mad Queen."

 

Rules: it's a Teams only map (R&Y versus B&G) because of the starting positions of the kings.

Red and Blue can still castle (kingside or queenside), but Green and Yellow cannot castle.

No check counters. Pawn promotion on the 10th rank. I think the default setting is that players are anonymous.

Suggested Time Control: 1 minute + 15 seconds increment

Optional Info-text to be displayed in the chat: Game description: "Uncage the Mad Queen! But be warned, misplaced kings (kings separated from their armies) need to be shielded from check. Maybe the dead 'zombie' pieces can provide some cover ..."

I have added your games to the testserver game's list. This provides us all an opportunity to, first, see how games on these maps function before determining if these should also be used for rated games on the main server map pool. So, please go to the testserver and click "+" to create a new game. Here:

Make this game casual/unrated and then invite 4 "comfuters," not "Rando" bots, to play your map. It is important to determine, "Do games on your map, played by 4 comfuters, actually reach an ending in a reasonable number of moves?" If the answer is, "No," then it is worth considering whether there are some adjustments that could be made.

 

For example: I have noticed that the map submitted by wearethebestfoever (this map which didn't have a name is called "We are 1" on the testserver) will go on for an average of 150+ moves.

Hello harrisisawesome,

An error occurs when I try to load your map on the testserver. I also tried to create a game on the main server with your map and there is still an error. This error is not the "smiley" face which is cause by :  ) near the words "stalemated." It is some other error. So, I did not load the map. Maybe you can try to create this map again and see if it can be loaded as a casual unrated game without producing an error "can't read" message.

 

 

To the community I say:

I have ideas which I think are fun! Including "Map Maker Wednesdays" (it doesn't necessarily have to be on Wednesdays. This is just an example. It could be the first day of the month or some other day) in which map makers meet on the testserver to try out new maps and offer other map makers feedback.

We could also have "New Map Contests!" A lot has yet to be determined, but I think there are events that could be fun while also recognizing the creative contributions of other map makers in order to help our community grow.

 

Again, I will try to give more details in an upcoming post, which may become stickied -re

small thing i noticed about anti-jungle (after someone resigned on move 1 as green claiming they couldn't win): green will take a move longer to stalemate than usual (as he has dark bishops and will stalemate on his turn, not when his last light bishop gets captured. you could give green the first move .  or you could consider replacing the fixed bishops with bricks, as i suggested earlier.

create a "New Game" and then select your map, Triad, from the list. You can test out your map by inviting bots to play. Right now, you cannot simply spectate as the bots randomly cycle through the various maps on their own. I assume Spacebar is adjusting/updating the bots at the moment.

But it is good to observe the bots playing on any new map to ensure that there is nothing broken.

Hi,

I have an .jpg image of me playing vs. the bots on acgusta2's map, but I'm currently unable to add an image file to this post or any post on the forum. In addition to the "insert image" button being gone, the "copy & paste" function also will not place an image into any post. I assume this change is the result of the recent update. I hope mods/admins, at least, can still be allowed to "insert images" because this was a useful function.

On the testserver, I edited the two King Safety maps (I adjusted the description of the FFA version. I changed the Teams version to be 9+11. After analyzing the recent tournament games, 9+11 seems more balanced)

We have new options incoming:


  - special 2player position (the standard setup) for which castling is supported. Combine this with play4mate to get standard 2pc. (stalemate will be +10 each in this case)


 - you can set the rank from which pawns jump 2. note that pawns can jump two also from one rank behind the specified one. this is for horde type positions (like war for throne)


 - you can create zombies. zombies will make random moves. (and i wonder if we could add zombies controlled by the comfuter).  there is no difference between a resigned king and a whole resigned army. in standard games the army just happens to be dead (except antichess)


- in case of takeover, only the king of a zombie will move, but the other pieces will not. (the zombies pieces can be taken over by checkmating the king. usually the get eaten though )


- note that you can have live pieces of dead players. they are bounties, aka dead pieces that give points, but of course do not move because dead players don't have a turn.

side question: what is a random move? is it: pick a random piece and then a random move (that's what randos and zombies do), or: pick a random move from all possible moves (making queen moves more more likely etc)?
