yes but thi can help you to get use to the board itself due you need to lear the messure of the board and coordinates just a guess but well is a good feature

The ghost board was a bug I turned into a feature because, well I just liked my background with pieces floating around.
No names, no points, and no clocks! so you won't know how much time you have when playing this "variant".
You can toggle ghost board anytime with Shift-Alt-G (unless you are playing in a ghostboard game, of course).
