8 - Minimum Games

Sort:
TadDude

An advanced option.

Minimum number of rated games finished by potential registrants.

The default is 5. This can be set anywhere from 0 to 255.

The default of five games, zero for premium members in official tournaments, can create problems. There are sandbagging accusations from those who do not know what sandbagging is. When players with an established rating purposely lose games to lower their rating. A player with five games played cannot have done that. If not sandbagging accusations then there are requests to remove players who have grown in strength.

There could be illegitimate reasons but someone who signs up for a ratings limited tournament after five completed games could simply be unaware of how ratings work.

Opinion: Set as high as possible where there are still enough eligible to register

- Rating and time/move average is more reliable.

- A player may be committed enough to the site to be here long enough to not time out.
