Yeah, I definitley wouldn't agree with your g4 idea. There isn't much you're getting from the weakening of your kingside. True, otherwise there isn't an obvious plan, but you could have done something quieter, like play b3 and bxc4 to weaken c4, then a4, Ba3, to trade your bad bishop, g3 and Bg2 to put some pressure on e4, and maybe at some point d5.
