A clear problem: why we lose new players?

As a new player this year who stuck around, I can tell you that the reason I stuck around was my eagerness to play in the Solo Championships, eventhough I played terribly and had no chance of winning. I had to work to get to 1600 just to join the arenas, and playing in those arenas was a lot of fun!

It made me want to learn the game, and yesterday I reached 2400 FFA for the first time.  Getting better at the game hasn't been easy, because we're lacking educational content.  I had to learn theory, and figure out openings on my own, it's taken a long time.  I got tired of getting Teamed on by my flanks, so I started playing Teams to get better, and that was a whole other ball game.  Nobody tells you that you have to be good at Teams to get better at FFA, but you do.

I wasn't lucky enough to have someone teach me.  I learned the most from watching Luke's  ChaCha's and Radon's Twitch streams, but I wish more of their content ended up on YouTube for everybody to learn from.

I think what new players need is more content to understand and play the game better.  While YouTube is seriously lacking in 4 Player Chess content, YouTube is how I found 4 Player Chess in the first place ( Gothamchess & Eric Rosen playing ).

Chess.com doesn't do enough to promote 4 Player Chess within their own site.  I was a member for years, and never knew it existed.
