A little English Help

I play the English as my only white opening, ususally 1.c4 2. Nc3 3. g3 4. Bg2 5. e2 6. Nge2.

I like this setup, as it is pretty flexible. I keep running into one problem... Black tries to trade off light squared bishops on h3 or g2. If I see it coming, sometimes I move the rook, and retreat to h1.

But I have lost a few games lately where I trade the bishops, the queen gets in one of the weak squares on h3 or f3, and, supports a mate on f2 or h2.

I have considered trying a non fianchetto variety of English. What do you think?

you mean 5.e3?.

Yes, widderstein, I mean 5. e3. Sorry.

Here is an example game of what I am talking about. Obviously I blundered huge at the end, but it still illustrates a theme that has gotten me beat a lot lately.

Oh, and thanks for your post ccssii. I guess part of my problem is I am to loathe to trade the bishop off. I hate having that hole there.

So I've been trying to follow the advice from this thread and play mores strongly in the center, and avoid just passively playing a system. It has brought some better results.

Nice mate at the end if I do say so.

I love it when people castle queenside against the English. It seems to always end in a beatdown.

hapahauli's done the major work in the two game analyses - I herewith pass the "thanks" on to him.

Oops! Embarassed My bad. Thank you very much hapahauli, very very helpful.

Yall up for starting a vote chess game, where I can just watch the discussion? I think that might be instructive.
