I say U1700 because that seems like it would include the majority of the player base and wouldn't have many crazy outliers that utterly destroy everyone else. However, I would also love to host 1700+ "open" tournaments with the same prize setup. Also could do U1200, etc for lower ratings.
A question about interest level in a tournament
About bots and computer assistance: if anyone is seen by chess.com as using external assistance of any form they would be uneligible for prizes and prizes would move down to the next eligible participant. Also, if it is clear that someone is cheating, as in like 5/5 by an 800 versus a field of 1600s, with no mistakes, blunders, etc, they would be reported and investigated as much as possible, and in the case of any ambiguity, not given a prize.
I'd be interested if there were prize options for other levels also. U1400 or U1200. Hopefully the "cheating" aspect might be minimal with the prize money being small.
I would like to do maybe u1100 and some other groups to, but I would be interested
Maybe there could be a U1150, U1750, and 1750+?

I think I would either do multiple tournaments of a time control at once, each with separate prizes, or one big open tournament with class prizes. ie u1000 prize, U1250, U1500, U1750, U2000. However, if I did this, it would most likely be a set cash amount rather than a percentage, and only for 1st place under each range, unless a tournament had enough entries.
i mightve considered but im wayyyyy over 1700
Yes, that was just an example rating, I would be happy to include higher rated players, either in a separate tournament or in larger tournaments.

Ya that would work
I could be interested, depending on the timing and the time controls (somewhere between 10 and 30 minutes would be good for me). Thanks.
I would be interested but tired of playing 1800. Why is it always 1400 to 1800 tournament? why can't it be 1400 & 1500 play each other only or 1300 to 1500. I know I get better by playing better players But I will never enter another tournament specially if I have to pay extra like this and have to play players with more then 300 rating.
OK im about to post the link to the club. I haven't fully set it up yet but please share it to anyone who might be interested.
I like your aim but, I can find online tournaments for free. The only tournaments I pay an entry fee for is OTB tournaments. Online tournaments can have cheating and be a waste of my money if I paid to participate.
you might find this helpful. How To Play In US Chess Online Rated Tournaments - Chess.com i found this the other day while working on setting up (fingers crossed) a rated thing on tuesday nights without sections and cash stuff. Jackalope USCF Club - Chess Club - Chess.com i'm mostly set i think (got an affiliate/i'm waiting on getting listed)/it had links to a lot of helpful stuff and info
from what i've seen i think the interest is definitely there if you invite folks but is more cheating concerns definitely with cash stuff
i'm not sure but i think there might also be a site verification process you have to go through for them but i think it might be as simple as filling out on a form/they talk about it on this guy How To Play In US Chess Online Rated Tournaments - Chess.com
Would anyone be interested in joining a U1700 tournament sometime in the next couple weeks where there is an entry fee (something like 5 or 10 dollars) and the winner gets 25% of total entry fees, 2nd gets 15% and 3rd gets their money back + possible free entry into another tourney? I am interested in hosting online tournaments and am trying to scout out interest levels. Also, if anyone has any experience in this sort of thing, what advice would you give?
