How Do you plan to reach those goals? I am very interested in chess training and I find it inspirational to read how other try to improve.
AClotfelter's Training Journal
I have not set a specific training plan, and I am certainly open to suggestions. I believe I may be able to reach 2000 based on the fact that I am around 1400 now, but I have never had any formal instruction, read any chess books, or done many tactical puzzles or the like. When I became more serious last summer, I played a lot more chess than I ever had, and improved a lot, I think. However, I realize that my 1400ish rating is based on my play on this site, and may not hold up OTB. However, I believe that reading and working on my game will only improve it. I have a few chess books, and I was getting ready to actually read one, and I realized that I wasn't sure where to begin. I was going to read "My System", but I don't think I should start there. I have read that you should start with tactics first, so I was looking at "Chess Tactics for Champions" by Polgar. At this point, I think I am going to start with "Play Winning Chess" by Seirawan.
I have played chess off and on since I was in grade school. I became more of a serious player last summer, but a heavy workload at my job put an end to that (as well as Taekwondo, and everything else I do outside work.) I am wanting to start playing again, and am trying to find the time to do so. I personally feel that I have not yet begun to reach my full potential as a chess player. My goal is attain and maintain a 2000+ rating. I am quite a ways from this at this point, and I still make a large number of blunders. I prefer unconventional play, mostly to my detriment! I like throwing unexpected strategies out there to see what sticks.
